Another “Hearts” has materialized — this one from Oriental Trading. This time the fox is the jinx. And if I were young, I would be a bit spooked by those eyes. (Posted by Doug Skinner)

“Mixies” — an Ed-u-Cards creation from 1956 — touted itself as the “card game of 1001 funny figures.” Each card showed 1/3 of a person or animal, each from the circus; players could mix them up and admire the comical results; or collect sets of figures in a more conventional card game. And, in either case, enjoy […]

Yet another fish game has come our way; this one, “Go Fish,” was published by Oriental Trading — no date, but it looks like a recent addition to the canon. The sea bass is joined in this version by the octopus, marlin, shark, dolphin, angel fish, sea horse, manta ray, and clown fish. (Posted by […]

What better way to mark our 100th graphic lagniappe here than with “Piggy Bank” (Ed-U-Cards, 1965)? The graphics for this game consisted of pennies and nickels — and, of course, the Silver Pig that you put them in. Children learned an important lesson here. If you saved 100 pennies, you would have a dollar. But an Ed-U-Card […]

“Card Game of Flags of the United Nations” was published by Russell — no date, I’m afraid. That’s a commendably descriptive title, I think. The countries are divided into a number of categories: Veto Countries, Island Countries, African Countries, etc. The “CC” indicates that Mexico is one of the “Costume Countries.” (Posted by Doug Skinner)

The “Bowling Card Game” (Ed-U-Cards, 1962) let you enjoy the sport without getting any exercise. And you could enjoy some colorful early ’60s graphics as well. (Posted by Doug Skinner)

Built-Rite is responsible for the “Zoo Fun Card Game.” There is no date, I’m afraid: just pictures of birds, fish, and mammals: on “New shaped cards — to fit the hands – easier to hold.” (Posted by Doug Skinner)

“Cowboys and Indians” was published by Ed-U-Cards in 1960. It featured soberly rendered illustrations of cowboys and Indians, six-shooters and tommyhawks — and one cowgirl. (Posted by Doug Skinner)

Another “Old Maid” has arrived to add to our survey. This one was published by Oriental Trading. I’m not sure what Chef Sheri is cooking in this picture; it looks like mushrooms and confetti. I’ve never tried that. And here’s the Old Maid. (Posted by Doug Skinner)

In recognition of our upcoming event, “Not Dirty, Just Spicy,” we will pause in our survey of the anonymous graphics of children’s games; and consider those for adults. A wide variety of graphic information has been put on playing cards: ads, maps, political caricatures, music, aircraft silhouettes, foreign phrasebooks, souvenir photos of fairs and landmarks, […]
