“72 Pictured Party Stunts” was published by Whitman in 1935. And it’s just that: a series of actions to be performed by party guests. As the instructions explain, “Anyone who fails to perform satisfactorily may be penalized by being tickled by everybody, running the gauntlet, being locked in a dark closet, or submitting to some similar hardship.” I would probably sit this one out. The pictures are spirited, however; and for once an artist is credited: Garland G. Bryant.

I am very interested in Mr. Garland G. Bryant. Wonder if he ate “green ham and cheese” or was it “green eggs and cheese”? Party stunts are a good idea.

I wish I knew something about Garland Bryant. The drawings are deft and cartoony, and the limited color scheme rather elegant. Fun to look at.

Todd — From the instructions inside the box:
This game consists of 72 cards picturing and naming stunts for the guests to perform. Host or hostess should shuffle the cards and then have each guest draw one, after which the guests in turn must read the instructions aloud and do the stunts to please those present. Anyone who fails to perform satisfactorily may be penalized by being tickled by everybody, running the gauntlet, being locked in a dark closet, or submitting to some similar hardship. If anyone draws a card labeled PRIZE CARD, he may call upon anyone else present to do the task prescribed, and if he fails to do it well, he must suffer the penalty. If anyone draws a card labeled PENALTY CARD, he must do the stunt to everyone’s satisfaction or undergo two penalties.

Nope, no idea what it’s worth. I just accumulate these things for the graphics. Yes, I saw the offensive cards; I like the monkey with the concertina better. Cheers!
