Our next “Old Maid” is a cheaply produced deck, simply marked as “Made in Hong Kong.” Some version of it can still be found in dollar stores, among the toys sold as party favors.
And here’s the Old Maid.

She looks a little like Ted Koppel.

Looks more like George Bush to me.
As a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, I must say I’m looking forward to January 20th. Anytime one sees the shrub in an old maid deck it’s got to be way too late or something.

Oh dear, seeing Shrubs sounds like an unpleasant condition. Well, the next cards in the pipeline for this continuing survey of neglected graphic design are from Austria, Denmark, and the Czech Republic. Maybe they’ll help clear the shrubbery from our poor beleaguered brains.
(And whatever Bush is, he’s not a conservative. I was thinking of writing a tongue-in-cheek essay arguing that he was actually a Maoist; but, the hell with it, I’d rather play my uke. And HH — I hope we can harmonize, uke-wise, some time. Cheers!)

I love it when things get mis-registered during the low budget color printing. This old maid looks like a Bonnard lithograph.
