“The Great Composers” was like “Authors,” but with music.  This particular edition was published by Merrimack Publishing, as “an exact replica of the antique original.”  I enjoy Weber’s music, but I must admit I’ve never heard “Euryanthe.”

paul henry lang noted the “dramatic insecurity” of Euryanthe, while adding, “already sadly deficient on account of its miserable text,” the work “could not maintain itself. While it is filled with fine music, its stylistic inequalities are pronounced.”

    go figure.

Huh. Well, I’ll have to listen to it sometime. I’ll be glad to forgive stylistic inequalities for some fine music.
