We continue our survey of “Old Maid” with this breezy deck from Somerville.  No date is given, as usual; I’d guess the ’40s.  The artist seems fond of triangular eyes, large ears, and pointed noses, giving all the citizens here a decidedly elfin cast.

And here’s the Old Maid.  From the look of that date book, she’s not a lonely one.

Seems like all the citizens in this deck have a common case of “roseola”. The “speed queen” reminds me of an old friend, Chris from L.A. who is also a hot footed redhead. This old maid is real knee-slapin town gossip. (she’s slapped her knee so many times, she had to sew a patch on where she ripped her dress.) I think the artist wanted to put a spur on her boot, but had to contain him/herself.
