Laws and Sausages (1)

It’s been said that the two things you should never watch being made are laws and sausages.  This vintage stereo card shows one of the above.

The observation is usually credited to Bismarck; a check of the www reveals multiple versions of it, and no definite source.  Huh.  The image can be safely ascribed to the Keystone View Company; it’s one of the educational scenes Anthony selected for “Through the Blackboard.”

In comparison to the modern machinery designed for the mass production of meat products, like sausages, this scene of ordinary folk hand-crafting bratwurst and bangers looks quaint. I bet the sausages are better too – that is, if you like sausages.

    I admit I do.

But think of the smell. In summer, especially. Congress, too.

I don’t mean to read too much into the slide, but the workers do not look very enlivened or fulfilled.
