Whitman released this detective game, “Who Is the Thief?”, in 1966. The players were instructed to pair suspects and witnesses, including this jaunty bum, to find the jewel thief.

That looks like a fun card game – I wonder if anything like it exists now? If it does, I want to play!

Although, I have to say that the”profiling” of the tramp as suspect bothers me. As if folks leading non-traditional lifestyles are dangerous: guilty of wholly un-American activities like chicanery, murder, treason, and theft!

I like his cigar on a stick!

Some of the other suspects are quite respectable: the Host, the Hostess, the Dentist, even the Mayor. I just picked the Tramp because I like his outfit. I hope he’s innocent, and can go enjoy his cigar in peace.

THIS MAN IS UP TO “NO GOOD”. He has the same “fuck you, fuck off” look that the bum on the edge of the glass round goldfish bowl from my childhood had. That “bum” circa 1963 (gone……fishin……) had a “hobo” bag on a stick, with a dime enclosed in it.(that my mother put in it) These people were thought of as good natured, or good luck. This gentleman was probably off to compose a ballad.

If he came knocking on my door at 11:15 at night I’d let him in for “no good fun”, but I’d make him take a bath.
